About Me

Hi, I’m Khushil — an accountant from the UK who’d rather be anywhere else.

Not literally anywhere else. I love my job. But there’s something about sitting at a desk staring at spreadsheets that makes you dream a little harder about mountains, street food, and getting completely lost somewhere you’ve never been before.

I started travelling properly in 2019 — five weeks through Panama, Guatemala and Costa Rica with nothing but a backpack and a very detailed spreadsheet. Then COVID happened and the world stopped for a while. But the wanderlust didn’t.

Since then I’ve been making up for lost time. South America for almost seven weeks. Vietnam. Indonesia. Austria and the Czech Republic at Christmas. And now, somehow, I’m nearly 40 and I still book hostel beds — not because I have to, but because the best conversations I’ve ever had happened in hostel common rooms at midnight with people I’d never have met otherwise.

That’s what Off the Books Travel is about.

It’s for the people who have a 9-5 job they actually care about but can’t stop thinking about their next trip. For the solo travellers who’ve been told they’re “a bit old for that now.” For anyone who’s ever opened a new tab at work and started searching flights before they’ve finished their morning coffee.

I’m not here to tell you to quit your job and travel the world. I’m here to show you that you don’t have to.

Every trip I write about comes with real costs, honest opinions, and the kind of detail you only get from someone who spent weeks planning it on a spreadsheet. Because that’s what accountants do — even on holiday.

Welcome to Off the Books Travel. Let’s go somewhere.
